Actor Vijay, president of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), announced his party’s political direction and vision at TVK’s first state conference at Viluppuram, Tamil Nadu. During the event, Vijay hoisted the party flag on a 100-foot pole and paid tribute to Tamil freedom fighters and social reformers. TVK’s ideology emphasizes secular social justice, inspired by figures such as Thiruvalluvar, Periyar, and Kamaraj.
Vijay outlined TVK’s core principles, including state autonomy, inclusiveness, anti-corruption, a two-language policy, and the vision for a drug-free Tamil Nadu. He promised a Secretariat branch in Madurai, a caste survey, a push for education under the State list, and greater representation for women, aiming for at least one-third of positions.
Taking aim at fascism and the Dravidian model, Vijay promised to oppose “sectarian forces” and corrupt politics. In a reference to MGR and NTR, he expressed faith in public support, stating TVK would work towards single-party majority in the 2026 Assembly polls, while remaining open to alliances that offer shared governance.
“We may be new, but we’re ready to take on politics with confidence,” Vijay said, setting TVK’s sights on becoming a transformative force in Tamil Nadu politics.
