Tirumala, March 11: A case of misappropriation in the counting of Srivari Hundi donations has come to light at the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD). Senior assistant Krishna Kumar was found guilty of diverting foreign currency donations instead of depositing them in the temple treasury. Based on an internal investigation by the TTD Vigilance Wing, TTD EO Shyamal Rao has issued an order suspending the accused employee.
Foreign Currency Worth Lakhs Misused
The Srivari Hundi, which receives crores of rupees in donations every year from devotees worldwide, also includes significant amounts of foreign currency. According to the temple regulations, all foreign currency must be accounted for and deposited in the Parakamani (temple treasury) on the 1st of every month. However, investigations revealed that Krishna Kumar failed to deposit foreign currency amounting to ₹6 lakh in a single month.
The TTD Vigilance Wing conducted a detailed inquiry into the hundi counting process and found discrepancies. Their report confirmed that Krishna Kumar had tampered with the process for personal gain. Following this revelation, the TTD EO acted swiftly, issuing an immediate suspension order against the accused official.
TTD Strengthens Security Measures
This incident has raised concerns over the transparency and security of hundi donations. The TTD administration is now expected to implement stricter monitoring systems to prevent further irregularities. Devotees and temple committees are also demanding greater transparency in the counting and handling of hundi donations.
The case serves as a reminder of the need for stronger accountability within temple management, especially when dealing with sacred donations offered by millions of devotees.
