The Kakinada Port is at the center of controversy over allegations of illegal smuggling of Public Distribution System (PDS) rice. Despite six months in power, the TDP government faces criticism for failing to act decisively. Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan directly accused TDP MLA Kondababu of negligence and complicity in the scam.
Pawan Kalyan remarked during his visit to the port, “This port operates without accountability—it’s like a free-for-all situation.” He criticized the lack of action against those involved and stated that the scam, which flourished under the previous regime, continues to this day.
According to YSRCP party members, instead of addressing the issue, the TDP has attempted to blame the YSRCP, which they criticize as a diversion tactic to cover up their failures. They further highlight that 59% of the port’s operations fall under central government oversight, making it clear that the TDP’s inaction and attempts to shift blame are unacceptable. YSRCP leaders assert that the public sees through these tactics and demands accountability from the ruling TDP.
The public demands swift action to end smuggling and ensure that ration rice reaches the needy, urging leaders to focus on governance rather than political blame games. Whether this issue will be resolved or continue as a tool for political rivalry remains to be seen.
