The Supreme Court on Monday dismissed a petition by Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leader and Andhra Pradesh Assembly Deputy Speaker K Raghu Ramakrishna Raju, seeking the transfer of corruption cases against YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) chief and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy out of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
A bench comprising Justice BV Nagaratna and Justice Satish Chandra Mishra observed that the Telangana High Court already supervises the proceedings and has directed day-to-day hearings in the concerned CBI court. The bench stated, “When the High Court is monitoring the matter and ensuring regular hearings, the transfer of cases is not warranted.”
The petition also sought the cancellation of bail granted to Jagan in 2013 by a special CBI court in Hyderabad regarding the alleged illegal assets case. However, the Supreme Court ruled that there was no need for a separate hearing on the petition, as the matter remains under the purview of the CBI court and the Telangana High Court’s supervision.
The court further referenced its previous verdict on corruption cases involving MPs and MLAs, stressing that any concerns about delays in trial should be addressed within the ongoing judicial process. This decision highlights the judiciary’s trust in existing mechanisms to handle high-profile cases, amid ongoing political tensions in Andhra Pradesh.
