Jammu: Tensions escalated along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district after the Pakistan Army violated the ceasefire in the Krishna Ghati sector. The Indian Army responded with force, leading to heavy casualties on the Pakistani side. Defence sources confirmed on Thursday that at least five Pakistani soldiers were killed in retaliatory action late Wednesday evening.
Following this unprovoked aggression, security forces in Jammu and Kashmir have been placed on high alert along the LoC, International Border (IB), and the hinterland. Several incidents of cross-border firing were reported in Rajouri, Poonch, and Jammu districts, with the Pakistan Army allegedly attempting to provide cover for infiltrators trying to enter Indian territory.
This marks the first major ceasefire violation of the year in the Krishna Ghati sector. The exchange of fire came just a day after an improvised explosive device (IED) blast in the Akhnoor sector of Jammu district claimed the lives of two Indian Army personnel, including a captain. Security officials suspect that terrorists were behind the deadly explosion.
Over the past five days, increased hostilities have been observed in Poonch, Rajouri, and Jammu districts. These incidents are being linked to Pakistan’s persistent efforts to facilitate terrorist infiltration into Indian soil. On February 8, a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) sustained minor injuries after stepping on a landmine while patrolling the LoC, while another soldier was wounded by enemy fire in the Keri sector of Rajouri.
According to army intelligence, several terrorists are stationed along the LoC and IB, waiting for an opportunity to cross over. Indian security forces have intensified surveillance and are maintaining strict vigilance to prevent any infiltration attempts. During a high-level security meeting on Wednesday, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha emphasized the need for a zero-tolerance approach towards terrorism and cross-border infiltrations, instructing security agencies to remain on high alert.
With tensions running high and ceasefire violations continuing, the situation along the border remains volatile. Security forces are prepared to respond to any further provocations, ensuring the safety of the region and preventing the infiltration of militants into Jammu and Kashmir.
