Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has acknowledged that due to financial constraints, several of the “Super Six” guarantees made before the elections will not be implemented as initially promised. This admission has triggered widespread criticism, with opposition parties accusing him of reneging on his commitments and betraying the public’s trust.
Key Highlights:
- Naidu admits financial constraints prevent implementation of “Super Six” guarantees.
- Opposition, led by YSRCP, criticizes Naidu for backtracking on pre-election promises.
- Naidu fast-tracks implementation of Annadata Sukhibhava and Thalliki Vandanam schemes, starting June 2025.
Naidu explained that the state’s financial situation, worsened by the previous YS Jagan Mohan Reddy government, had limited the funds available for welfare schemes. He cited a NITI Aayog report that underlined the financial challenges faced by the state during 2022-23. He further clarified that while he would have implemented these schemes if funds were available, he is currently unable to do so due to the state’s financial crisis.
The “Super Six” guarantees that were part of his election promises include free travel for women on state-run buses, ₹20,000 for farmers under the Annadata Sukhibhava scheme, ₹15,000 for women under the Thalliki Vandanam scheme, ₹1,500 under the Adabidda Nidhi scheme, and ₹3,000 unemployment allowance for jobless youth. Naidu stated that funds allocated for major projects such as Polavaram, Amaravati, and Visakhapatnam Steel Plant cannot be diverted to implement these promises at this time. However, he assured that once the financial situation improves, the promises will be fulfilled.
The opposition, particularly the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP), has strongly criticized Naidu for making unrealistic promises without assessing the financial feasibility. YSRCP leader YS Sharmila mocked Naidu’s statement, accusing him of betraying the people’s trust.
Political analysts have raised concerns about Naidu’s credibility, stating that his failure to deliver on promises has eroded public confidence. Despite facing financial constraints, analysts noted that Jagan Mohan Reddy managed to implement welfare schemes during his tenure.
In response to the growing backlash, Naidu has decided to fast-track the implementation of two major welfare schemes, Annadata Sukhibhava and Thalliki Vandanam, starting June 2025. Agriculture Minister K Atchannaidu confirmed that the Annadata Sukhibhava scheme will be launched before the Kharif season, with funds disbursed in three installments over the year.
The YSRCP has vowed to keep pushing the issue and expose Naidu’s backtracking on his promises, intensifying their campaign to hold him accountable. The ongoing political debate surrounding Naidu’s shifting stance is expected to remain a key topic in Andhra Pradesh’s political discourse in the coming months.
