The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) has strongly opposed the coalition government’s decision to privatize medical colleges, calling for an immediate rollback to safeguard healthcare services and increase medical seats for students.
Former minister Seediri Appala Raju criticized Chandrababu Naidu for promoting privatization, including medical colleges under the PPP model. In contrast, he praised YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s administration for establishing 17 government medical colleges across the state, significantly boosting healthcare and education.
Appala Raju highlighted the coalition government’s failure to operationalize five medical colleges slated to open this year, including Pulivendula and Markapur, which could result in a loss of 2,250 seats. He accused Naidu of prioritizing privatization over public welfare, even during his previous terms, and shifting the Aarogyasri scheme to private insurers, undermining its purpose.
The YSRCP pledged to review and reverse these privatization moves if it returns to power, calling them anti-people decisions.
