Andhra Pradesh to Develop Data City Near Vizag, Aiming to Create 2 Million Jobs, the government is set to establish a state-of-the-art Data City in Madhurawada, near Visakhapatnam, aiming to create 2 million jobs over five years. This ambitious initiative aligns with the Telugu Desam Party’s (TDP) election promise and seeks to replicate Hyderabad’s successful Hitec City model.
Spread across 500 acres, the Data City will feature advanced data centres and artificial intelligence hubs, making it a hub for IT companies and technological innovation. Land acquisition has already begun, with 80 acres allocated to Google for a data centre, following a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the state government. Tata Consultancy Services will also expand its footprint by securing 30 acres.
Nara Lokesh, Andhra Pradesh’s IT minister, spearheaded this project after engaging with global firms at the World Economic Forum in Davos. Lokesh expressed confidence in Visakhapatnam emerging as a tech hub, attracting firms in AI, deep tech, and IT services. The state plans to follow the Hitec City strategy by bringing a major company, such as Google, to act as an anchor, encouraging others to invest.
