
The Election Commission of India has issued a notification for elections to three seats each of the Andhra Pradesh and Telangana Legislative Councils, scheduled for February 27, 2025. This marks the beginning of the nomination process for the elections from the graduates’ and teachers’ constituencies. The terms of office of three members from each state (two Graduates’ and one Teachers’ constituency in Andhra Pradesh, and one Graduates’ and two Teachers’ constituencies in Telangana) are set to expire on March 29, 2025.
Nominations can be filed until February 10, with nominations being scrutinized the following day. The last date for withdrawal of candidatures is February 13. Polling will occur on February 27 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., with vote counting scheduled for March 3. The model code of conduct has already come into effect in the concerned constituencies.
In Andhra Pradesh, elections will be held for the East-West Godavari and Krishna-Guntur Graduates’ constituencies, as well as the Srikakulam-Vizianagaram-Visakhapatnam Teachers’ constituency. The current office bearers retiring on March 29 are Illa Venkateswara Rao (Progressive Democratic Front – East-West Godavari), K. S. Lakshmana Rao (Progressive Democratic Front – Krishna-Guntur), and Pakalapati Raghu Varma (Independent – Srikakulam-Vizianagaram-Visakhapatnam).
In Telangana, elections will be held for the Medak-Nizamabad-Adilabad-Karimnagar Graduates’ constituency and the Medak-Nizamabad-Adilabad-Karimnagar and Warangal-Khammam-Nalgonda Teachers’ constituencies. The Congress holds the Medak-Nizamabad-Adilabad-Karimnagar Graduates’ seat, while the Teachers’ constituencies are represented by Independents.
The Congress has announced V. Narender Reddy as its candidate for the Medak-Nizamabad-Adilabad-Karimnagar Graduates’ constituency, currently held by former minister T. Jeevan Reddy. The BJP, aiming to expand its presence in the Telangana Legislative Council, has already named candidates for three constituencies.
C. Anji Reddy, an industrialist, will contest for the Medak-Nizamabad-Adilabad-Karimnagar Graduates’ constituency, while Malka Komaraiah, an educationist, will run for the Medak-Nizamabad-Adilabad-Karimnagar Teachers’ constituency. Puli Sarottham Reddy will contest from the Warangal-Khammam-Nalgonda Teachers’ constituency on a BJP ticket.
With the election process in full swing, all eyes are on February 27 for the polling day.
