Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has instructed officials to capitalize on the state’s 1,053-km coastline, the longest in the country, to develop it into a global maritime hub. Stressing the need for a robust maritime policy, Naidu highlighted its potential to unlock economic growth while ensuring sustainability.
During a review meeting, Naidu emphasized the importance of infrastructure development to support port-led industrialization. He urged the adoption of a hub-and-spoke model to establish high-capacity ports connected to industrial corridors, enhancing linkages with tourism, industries, and infrastructure sectors.
The proposed maritime policy focuses on four pillars: port development, ship-building and repair clusters, growth of maritime-linked industries, and the development of port-adjacent regions. Naidu encouraged officials to engage global firms to set up ship-building units and integrate green energy and tourism within the maritime ecosystem.
To nurture talent, Naidu suggested establishing a maritime university in collaboration with the Indian Maritime University, IITs, and other institutions. These partnerships aim to boost research capabilities and equip the state’s youth with the skills needed for maritime and industrial sectors.
By aligning its strategies with global standards, Andhra Pradesh envisions becoming a world-class maritime state, driving industrial growth and fostering innovation.
