Several Tollywood actors, TV anchors, social media influencers, and a YSRCP leader are facing legal trouble for allegedly promoting illegal betting apps. The Miyapur police registered an FIR against 25 individuals, including Rana Daggubati, Vijay Deverakonda, Prakash Raj, Manchu Lakshmi, and Shyamala.
Actor Prakash Raj admitted he endorsed a gaming app in 2016 but later distanced himself from it, stating, “I realized my mistake and refused to renew the contract in 2017.”
Vijay Deverakonda & Rana Daggubati’s PR teams clarified that they promoted only legal skill-based gaming apps and ended their contracts long ago.
Complainant Phanindra Sharma alleged that celebrities earned hefty commissions while users suffered financial losses, even leading to suicides. Police have issued notices for questioning, with TV anchors Vishnupriya and Ritu Choudhary already interrogated.
This case has sparked debate over celebrity endorsements and ethical advertising, with calls for stricter regulations on promotions. More summons are expected in the coming days.
