The Andhra Pradesh government has unveiled a major educational reform aimed at restructuring schools into five distinct categories starting next year. As part of this initiative, the government will revoke GO 117, introduced by the previous YSRCP administration, and reinstate Grades 3, 4, and 5 in over 4,700 schools that were previously merged with primary and upper primary institutions.
The reform also includes the discontinuation of the High School Plus system, which currently combines high school and intermediate education. Intermediate-level classes will now come under the purview of the Intermediate Education Department, with decisions based on student enrollment data as of December 31 of the previous year.
Schools under the new system will be categorized based on factors such as proximity to national highways, railway lines, and student enrollment. The government will also seek feedback from teachers, parents, and students before finalizing the framework.
New School Categories:Satellite Foundation Schools: Anganwadi centers offering pre-primary education (LKG, UKG),Foundation Schools: Pre-primary Levels 1 and 2, along with Grades 1 and 2.,Basic Primary Schools: Pre-primary Levels 1 and 2, along with Grades 1 to 5,Model Primary Schools: One school per village panchayat, offering pre-primary to Grade 5, High Schools: Schools offering Grades 6 to 10.
