Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has announced plans to build seven new airports across Andhra Pradesh, aimed at improving infrastructure, connectivity, and economic growth. The initiative, discussed in a high-level review meeting, will enhance industrial, tourism, and trade opportunities in the state. These airports will be located in Kuppam, Dagadarthi, Srikakulam, Tadepalligudem, Nagarjunasagar, Tuni-Annavaram, and Ongole, complementing the state’s existing seven operational airports.
Land acquisition is underway for the new airports, with Kuppam earmarking 1,250 acres and Srikakulam securing 1,383 acres. Additionally, Dagadarthi will support cargo operations due to nearby industrial developments, including a BPCL refinery. Expansion plans for existing airports, including Gannavaram, are also underway, featuring designs inspired by Kuchipudi dance and Amaravati stupas.
To meet the growing demand for skilled aviation professionals, the government is setting up an Aviation University and Training Center. The new airports, combined with the expansion of existing ones, will position Andhra Pradesh as a leading aviation hub in South India, driving economic growth and improved connectivity.
