Andhra Pradesh police have summoned film director Ram Gopal Varma for allegedly posting morphed images of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan on social media. A team from Prakasam district police personally served the notice at Varma’s Jubilee Hills residence in Hyderabad around 10 a.m. on Wednesday, instructing him to appear at Maddipadu police station on November 19 for questioning.
Prakasam District Superintendent of Police A.R. Damodar confirmed, “We served the notices to (Varma) to appear before the investigation officer.” Varma has reportedly assured the police that he will cooperate and attend the scheduled inquiry.
The police registered a case against Varma on November 11 after a complaint by Ramalingam, a 45-year-old resident of Maddipadu. The complaint alleged that Varma’s posts undermined the reputation of the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister, and their families. The case has been filed under multiple sections concerning defamatory content and online conduct, highlighting the state’s ongoing efforts to address provocative or offensive social media activity involving prominent figures.
