YS Jagan Writes to PM Modi on Delimitation – Calls for Justice for Southern States
Amid growing concerns over the 2026 delimitation process, former Andhra Pradesh CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging him to ensure that Southern states do not lose parliamentary representation.
The YSRCP chief emphasized that population-based delimitation could unfairly reduce MP seats in South India, despite these states successfully controlling population growth, as per the Union government’s past recommendations.
Southern Leaders Unite – But Where Are TDP & Janasena?
While several leaders across party lines have taken a stand, key players from Andhra Pradesh’s ruling alliance, TDP and Janasena, remain silent on the issue.
📌 YS Jagan Mohan Reddy (YSRCP, AP) – Writes to PM Modi, demanding fair representation for Southern states.
📌 Naveen Patnaik (BJD, Odisha) – Releases a video message supporting the cause.
📌 K.T. Rama Rao (BRS, Telangana) – Attends the meeting.
📌 Revanth Reddy (CM, Telangana, Congress) – Advocates for Telangana’s interests.
📌 D.K. Shivakumar (Dy. CM, Karnataka, Congress) – Extends Karnataka’s support.
📌 Bhagwant Mann (CM, Punjab, AAP) – Stands in solidarity with the South.
📌 Pinarayi Vijayan (CM, Kerala, CPIM) – Defends Kerala’s representation.
📌 M.K. Stalin (CM, Tamil Nadu, DMK) – Leads the charge for South India.
A Political Divide Over Representation?
The delimitation process has triggered a political storm, with opposition leaders accusing BJP of sidelining South India while favoring North India in seat allocation. Tamil Nadu CM M.K. Stalin convened a high-level meeting, bringing together leaders from various parties to oppose what they call “unfair delimitation”.
However, AP CM Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan have remained silent. Critics are questioning whether they are prioritizing their alliance with BJP over Andhra Pradesh’s interests.
Jagan’s Strong Stand
In his letter, YS Jagan urged the Union government to consider factors beyond mere population when redistributing seats, warning that a one-size-fits-all approach would hurt Southern states.
With BJP facing pushback from multiple states, will the ruling alliance rethink its delimitation strategy? And more importantly, will TDP and Janasena finally break their silence?
